National Emergency Medicine Report Card

January 28, 2009

Recently ACEP released their new report card of the state of emergency medicine throughout the US and in each state in general.

The article covers things like access to care (# of physicians, neuro coverage, Board Cert. EM staffed ED’s), Liability, disaster response. Withover 100 different points to check off.

The article gives the US and each individual state a pretty bad grade. Not due to physician or physician training quality but from factors that can be worked on to be fixed. Its a pretty quick read to look over the summary and Texas in general. I think that will be some good information to know and think about how we can make it better.

I don’t know the rules on releasing full articles with out access so here is the link to the article

Alternatively I have placed the pdf of the article in SSEM folder of my xfiles to keep in encrypted.

MSIII and MSIV experiences

January 23, 2009

I’d like to expand a couple of our resource area to include either FAQ’s or quick write ups over common topics such as planning 3rd year, finding a mentor, finding away rotations, EM applications, etc.

Any MS3’s or 4’s want to take on one or more of these topics that would be great.

If any MS1,2,3,4’s have any questions or topics they wanted answer please put that out. Feel free to either comment with you email or email me
